Some sections of the Rum Runners Trail have REOPENED (listed below), while significant portions remain CLOSED.

BLT TRAIL is OPEN: (updated 9:00 am, August 11, 2023):  Lakeside Park Dr. to Hubley is OPEN.  Passable with caution.  Heavy equipment may be on trail.

ST MARGARETS BAY TRAIL: (updated 6:00pm, August 4, 2023).  Station Rd (Upper Tantallon) to Island View Drive remains CLOSED due to significant infrastructure damage.  The trail will remain closed until further notice. The following sections are OPEN: Hubley to Station Rd (upper Tantallon) is OPEN; Island View Dr to Hubbards is OPEN.

ASPOTOGAN TRAIL section is OPEN: (updated 1:30pm, August 4, 2023).  East River to Hubbards is OPEN.

CHESTER CONNECTION section is CLOSED: (updated 3:00pm, September 26, 2023). Several locations between East River and Martins River were severely damaged and will remain closed until damages can be repaired.  This closure includes the CASTLE ROCK Trail System.  There is no access, and no emergency services available in this area. EXCEPTIONS: Chester (Smith Rd) to East Chester (Duncan Rd) is OPEN. Martins River bridge to Frank Swinamer (Western Shore) is OPEN.

DYNAMITE TRAIL is OPEN: (updated 1:30pm, August 4, 2023) This section (Martin’s River – Mahone Bay) is OPEN.

BAY to BAY TRAIL is OPEN: (updated 1:00pm, August 23, 2023)  The trail (Mahone Bay – Lunenburg) is OPEN.

Please respect our trail crews and volunteers and refrain from using the trails until they can be deemed safe.

GOLD RIVER BRIDGE CLOSED: Effective Friday, September 24, 2021 the Gold River Bridge is CLOSED to all traffic.

How to use map: The Rum Runners Trail is a collective of seven municipal and volunteer trail organizations.  Click on the trail section next to the partner’s name to learn more.  Click “View Legend” in the bottom right side of the map to reveal a full list of points of interest.  Toggle the checkboxes on and off to view amenities of interest to you.  Both the desktop and mobile versions of the map will show you where you are on the trail and in relation to nearby services and attractions.

Cell phone coverage is very good throughout the length of the trail, but there may be occasional reception issues.
